Alfie is a small male mixed-breed dog. He resembles a chihuahua or small terrier. He is neutered, fully vaccinated, wormed, and up-to-date on heartworm treatment. He is approximately 1.5 years old.
He is a very active little boy (about 15lbs—full grown) and loves any play that involves running, shaking toys, and rolling around. He also loves to be carried around in your arms. He will play-bite a lot (which is common in the small breeds like his) but is learning ‘no’ and ‘no bite.’ When worn out he loves to fall asleep snuggled up to you. Laying across your lap napping is one of his favorite things.
I have taken Alfie out in public a few times. He went with me to the Atlanta airport—a very busy environment. He was very alert but eventually got overwhelmed and we stood outside and he felt better. When overstimulated he will bark and may even try to jump out of your arms. Walking in my neighborhood (with my 4 dogs) is a lot of fun for him. He loves being part of a group of dogs sniffing and watching squirrels.
We have a fenced yard and a dog-door, so Alfie has learned to go potty outside on his own—we encourage him to go first thing in the morning and before bed; he will also go when on a leashed walk. He hasn’t had any indoor accidents in weeks.
I have 4 dogs—all much larger than Alfie—and he wants to chase and play rough-and-tumble with them. I confine Alfie to my kitchen (pet gate) when I leave the house to keep my dogs (all over 10 years old) from getting too grumpy with him. Alfie is fine in the kitchen and isn’t destructive—I leave him with chewy toys and stuffed animals and he really enjoys both of these.
Alfie shouldn’t go to a home with small children. His play biting would be too much. He will need lots of toys and chew toys too.
He has seen cats and is very interested in them, but I feel he will be fine with them.
Overall, he is a sweetheart who still has some puppy behavior left. He is very amicable to correction so this should resolve itself.
Alfie is located in Stoughton, Massachusetts.
